World Rivers Day 2023 is finally upon us this weekend and it’s amazing to see the many different and creative ways in which people across the globe will be celebrating rivers. This year is our biggest celebration yet, with 1000s of events and millions of participants in well over 100 countries spanning 6 continents.
Thank you for your amazing efforts on behalf of the world’s waterways!

The importance of healthy rivers and clean water has never been more apparent. For all of us involved with World Rivers Day, it’s very heartening to see the thousands of activities being planned and the diversity is incredible: from small scale family and neighbourhood river cleanups around the world - to organized paddling trips down major rivers - to river conferences, podcasts, and online panel events - to art displays and photo contests - to educational tours - to the launching of new projects - to riverside plantings and habitat restoration projects - to campaigns for the “rights of rivers” and the launch of “adopt a river” programs - to the many public buildings and monuments that will be illuminating blue in honour of WRD - The list goes on and on and on...
