2024 New Year’s Day Regatta

Regatta fleet at the start line.

We had nine boats out for the New Year’s Day Regatta under very light wind conditions.

New Years Day Race Report

Amanda Lamont leads the way.

Light winds (really no wind, but lots of current) met racers on January 1. Seriously, the current was the only real reason for movement and if you could hold your apparent wind, your boat would move. The first race was a “no form of propulsion is excluded” race. That meant we could all use oars, paddles, mini-paddles, pumping and sculling. Super competition led to Amanda Lamont in an Opti winning that race. Thanks to Race Committee Tom Sluyter and Phil Rojkov for suggesting this innovative new format. The second race was legit, with sailing only permitted. Travis and Jungmi Lyne in the RS 400 benefited from fully-battened sails to fully use the current, converting it to apparent wind with aplomb. Overall winners Travis and Jungmi, 2nd place Mike Bretner in his Mirror 11 and 3rd place to Rueben Schulz in his Mirror 11.

Thanks to Tom and Phil, our Race committee.

It all starts with a Skipper’s meeting.

The fleet hits the water.

Waiting for the wind.

Congestion at the start line.

Mirrors Three! Two Mirror 11’s and a Mirror 16.

Not surprisingly, the Opti won the first race.

Looking for the wind…There must be some in that main somewhere!

Heather and Dan smile and wave as they pass by…

No rule 42 for this race!

42.1 Basic RuleExcept when permitted in rule 42.3 or 45, a boat shall compete by using only the wind and water to increase, maintain or decrease her speed. Her crew may adjust the trim of sails and hull, and perform other acts of seamanship, but shall not otherwise move their bodies to propel the boat.

Regatta Results.

Thanks to everyone who came out.

More pictures from the Regatta. Thanks to Neil, Ruben and Travis for the photos.
