Speaker Series Returns!

The Galápagos Islands Speaker Series on Zoom Wednesday 7:30pm

Ocean Health Speaker Series
Wednesday, January 25, 7:30 - 8:15pm

The Galápagos Islands are truly paradise, with unique flora and fauna - some of which are found nowhere else on the planet. These islands and their inhabitants inspired Darwin’s theory of evolution by natural selection, as he wondered if organisms had reached the islands from mainland South America and changed to suit their new environments.

The historical and biological importance of the Galápagos are recognized with two protected areas: the Galápagos National Park and the Galápagos Marine Reserve. Despite this, the islands are still subject to the same human impacts we see all over the globe - pollution, invasive species, and climate change.

We can all play a part in protecting these environments and doing better for our planet. Seeing the diversity of life and the delicate balance of life in the Galápagos was an inspiration for me. I’m excited to share my experience in the Galápagos Islands with you on Wednesday!

Warmly,
Dr. Kelsey Gil
Marine Biologist
