The Restricted Operator’s Certificate (Maritime) – ROC(M) (also called the VHF Radio licence) is issued on behalf of the Government of Canada to those who take and pass the exam. It is issued to a person, is good for life and there is no annual fee. Most candidates take a short preparatory course. The ROC(M) is required to legally use a VHF (and MF and HF) radio in Canada, on pleasure craft. A station licence for the radio is not required if you have an ROC(M) and are in Canada. Failure to produce one upon request by law enforcement can net a fine of up to $5,000.

Tom Babcock will be instructing and examining this course. He is a Sail Canada-certified instructor and has taught VHF Radio, sail, power and coach boat safety courses for many years.

The course runs from 10am to 4pm, on Saturday, October 5th, 2019, at the Hollyburn Sailing Club, 1326 Argyle Avenue, West Vancouver, Next to Ambleside Park. The cost is $140.00. Spaces are limited so register now.
