COVID-19 Update: June 13, 2020

This message is to keep members updated on issues regarding possible further phased re-opening of facilities and programs.  The Executive has been meeting regularly to assess and develop mitigation strategies for some of the key areas of concern of operating during the COVID-19 era.  One of our major areas of risk has been liability and upcoming insurance renewals.  We were delighted with the Ministerial Order that came on Wednesday that protects sports organizations from COVID-19 claims for damages.  This provides a layer of protection for the club and the directors although other stringent measures must be in place before further facility opening.  We have been researching WorkSafe BC requirements for COVID-19 employee protection and Return to Sport Guidelines for B.C.  We expect to have completed these assessments within the next week and have a decision by the Executive.  What we do know for certain is that the execution of any future Safe Operating Plan (required by the Provincial Health Officer) will be contingent upon our member’s strict adherence to any modifications to club policies or facility.   I’m sure that you are all getting used to the “new normal” and that we know that all the new behaviours required by us are keeping everyone safe!  Once again, stay tuned!
