On May 18-19 the inaugural Andy Hunt Celebrational Regatta will be held at the Jericho Sailing Centre.

This event is being held in memory of Andy Hunt who succumbed to brain cancer in October of 2018. Andy was a fixture on the regional dinghy sailing scene for decades and not only sailed whenever he could, but also donated countless volunteer hours in service of the sailing community, the Laser fleet, and local clubs such as Hollyburn Sailing Club, Kits Yacht Club and here at the JSCA. Andy spent 20+ years on our executive and chaired our Programmes committee (our equivalent of a fleet captain) continuously during that time while concurrently serving as the local Laser fleet representative. Only now that he is gone are we beginning to understand the full depth and breadth of his involvement in the local sailing community.

It is expected that Andy’s wide sphere of influence will attract a significant number of sailors from the region to celebrate his life the way he enjoyed it most: on the water. The weekend will involve a traditional regatta as well as a fun class to encourage the widest possible level of participation. It will also include a dinner and a celebration of Andy’s life on the Saturday evening and an Eight bells ceremony on the water Sunday morning. Extra dinner tickets are $15/person and the celebration of Andy’s life is free to all who would like to attend.

I would be happy to answer any questions or concerns that you might have regarding the event. I look forward to celebrating Andy’s life with you in person in May.
